How Muhammad Ali inspired the Philippines’ first-ever shopping mall

The Ali Mall, located in Araneta Center in Quezon City, was built one year after the epic ‘Thrilla in Manila’

Muhammad Ali, the world’s greatest, has died.
Ali fought one of the greatest bouts in history on 1 October 1975 in the Philippines’ Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, where he triumphed against another boxing giant Joe Frazier in their third match known as ‘Thrilla in Manila’.
As sports fans around the globe remember Ali’s life and achievements, the world must never forget how the boxing legend became part of real estate history.
Not long after the epic Ali-Frazier fight, the Araneta Group constructed the first-ever shopping mall in the Philippines – aptly named ‘Ali Mall’.
According to the Araneta Group, Ali personally graced the shopping mall’s grand opening in 1976, giving a speech how the country’s first major retail complex was in honour of his ‘Thrilla in Manila’.
Ali Mall was originally built with a floor area of 62,000 sqm. The four-storey mall was expanded in 2009 with an additional 2,500 sqm space, and further renovations were implemented after that.
The project has been a catalyst for the development of Quezon City’s Cubao District, whose business centre is the Araneta Center, an integrated community with entertainment, leisure, office and residential components.
Four decades since the opening of Araneta Center’s Ali Mall, the complex has welcomed several other acclaimed shopping malls, including the Gateway Mall, which was named twice by local entrepreneurs as the best shopping mall in the country.

THE VOICE KIDS 3: SARAH GERONIMO OUT, SHARON CUNETA IN

It's confirmed. Veteran actress-singer Sharon Cuneta will be the newest addition to the upcoming third season of the hit singing competition for young children, The Voice Kids. The Megastar herself confirmed reports in an interview aired on TV Patrol that she will be replacing Pop Royalty Sarah Geronimo as one of the three coaches of the show.
"Sobrang excited ako. I will be part of 'The Voice Kids' with, of course, Bamboo and Lea Salonga," Cuneta told ABS-CBN News.
Geronimo, who was one of the original coaches of The Voice Kids, alongside Broadway Star Lea Salonga and singer-musician Bamboo MaƱalac, announced in April that she will not be returning for the show's 3rd season as she wants to concentrate on ASAP and hone her talents as an artist. However, she also said that she is open to return as a coach in the show's future seasons.

Roxas to Duterte: Tell the truth about your bank accounts

TALISAY CITY, Cebu – Liberal Party (LP) presidential candidate Manuel Roxas II on Wednesday dared Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte to reveal the truth about his bank accounts as the local executive continued to reap criticisms after topping pre-election polls.

Roxas said there is no reason to be ashamed of one’s wealth if it came from legitimate sources.

“Trustworthiness is at the very core of everyone's campaign. The people are entitled to straight answers to straight questions. It is our responsibility to make sure things are clarified,” Roxas said in a press conference here.

“Mayor Duterte, shed light on these bank accounts. The power of leaders stem from the people’s trust. How can people trust you if you don’t have clear answers to questions? Are these bank accounts for real? Where did the money in these bank accounts come from? Why are they not included in your SALN (statement of assets, liabilities and net worth),” he added.

Roxas claimed that there are no questionable items in the SALNs he submitted when he was still in government.

“As a private citizen, I am no longer duty bound to disclose my statement of assets and liabilities and net worth. Nevertheless, I strongly adhere to the principles of transparency and accountability,” Roxas said.

“I am ready to sign a waiver on my bank accounts so the Ombudsman can look into it. I invite all candidates to follow my lead,” he added.

Earlier, vice presidential candidate Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV claimed that Duterte did not declare P211 million in a bank account in his SALN but declined to say where he got the information. A public official who fails to list all of his assets in his SALN may be dismissed from the service.

Enchong Dee asked: is he still in a relationship with Samantha Lewis?

Enchong Dee had one thing in mind when he agreed to do an indie film: to join his first ever international film festival.
He co-stars with Kapuso actress Janine Gutierrez in the Sinag Maynila entry Lila, which will be shown during the filmfest that will run from April 21-26, 2016.

Enchong even admitted that he would text Lila director Gino Santos: “Kailan ang flight natin?”

The ABS-CBN actor jokingly added, “Gusto ko ng photo with Meryl Streep.”

Enchong is one of the stars present during the presscon of the 2016 Sinag Maynila held last night, April 5, at SM Aura.

In the horror film titled Lila, he plays the cousin of Janine's character.

For some time now, there have been speculations that Enchong has broken up with his girlfriend Samantha Lewis.

Will he invite Samantha to the premiere of his film Lila?

“Of course naman, lahat naman invited,” he told reporters during the presscon held at the SM Aura Sky Park.

PEP took this opportunity to ask Enchong: is he still in a relationship with Samantha Lewis?

“Ha? Stick na lang tayo sa Sinag Maynila!” he answered with a laugh.

Maria Ozawa on PH Showbiz Career, Leaving The Porn Industry

MANILA, Philippines – “It’s my chance here in the Philippines,” said Japanese actress and former adult film star Maria Ozawa. The actress is in the Philippines to promote her upcoming movie Nilalang (The Entity), which will premiere as part of the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) lineup.
Maria stars alongside Philippine action hero Robin Padilla. He plays a forensic expert who teams up with Maria's character, an heir to a transnational organized crime syndicate from Japan.
According to a press release, Nilalang “tackles the underbelly of corrupt Philippine cops with the 'yakuza' and its links to a centuries’ old curse that may be responsible for the spate of serial killings happening in Manila.
In preparing for the movie, Maria had to learn martial arts, and learn more Filipino words. “I love horror movies,” she told Rappler. “But I’m really chicken.”
Breaking into the mainstream after spending years in porn, Maria said, would be difficult. “It’s totally different,” she said. And that’s why she's been pursuing commercial and acting opportunities around Asia.
She has been in adult films since she was 18, but left the industry in the last few years. “I do miss the industry,” Maria clarified. “I just quit 4 or 5 years ago. This new acting, filming...it's so new to me. I’m really excited, but worried,” she said. “I have lots of feelings (about the transition),” she said.
She is only in Manila for a week, and will return once the filming of Nilalang starts in August. Although she has yet to meet Robin, she is excited to begin filming with the action star. “He’s like an idol here in the Philippines, right? And number one in everything. I’m really pumped up.”
And she is also looking forward to visiting more places around the country, especially the beaches. “I’m really hoping it’ll work and people would know me better,” Maria tells Rappler. “I love it here. Everything. The food is great. I love the warm weather; I hope to come here often.”
And she probably will. “This is the beginning of my projects in the Philippines,” she said. "In Japan, it’s really hard to be in television when you’re doing porn first. Things I can’t do in Japan, I’d love to do it here." For more showbiz news from TFC Filipino Channel – Please visit this link to subscribe: PINOY ONLINE TV
